Technopreneur Promotion Programme (TePP Program)
About the programme:
Technopreneur Promotion Programme (TePP) is a novel support mechanism - initiated jointly by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) and Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), to tap the innovative potential of entrepreneurial citizens of India. The objective is to promote individual innovators through support mechanism at various stages to become technology based entrepreneurs (Technopreneurs).
Technopark is one of the Outreach Centres of DSIR (TTUC) for selection and evaluation of genuine Innovators and Entrepreneurs in the Country. DSIR has recognised Technopark as their TUC during 2007 and in this very short span of time two of our Incubatees got sizable TePP funding. TORQUE was sanctioned Rs.8 lakhs and Velozita was sanctioned Rs.12 lakhs. This funding helps these incubatees to kick start their product development and commercialization process. Both TORQUE and Velozita are ventures started by Engineering Students from College of Engineering, Trivandrum and Sree Chithra Thirunal College of Engineering, Trivandrum. Other incubatees like Sooryakiran Bioinformatics, Divx Medical and Software Technologies, Light Logics etc. are also expecting to get the TePP funding from DSIR. We have presented their cases in the last TSC meeting but the decision is yet to be taken. Our plan is to get the DSIR Innovation funding (TePP Funding) for all the TBI Incubatees so that their success rate can increase.
Technopark TUC has a pool of technical experts, the Technology Angels” from in and around Trivandrum, who are willing to advice the Innovators all the time on need based basis. The Mentors are not only Technical Experts, but also Chartered Accountants, Company secretaries, lawyers, Management Experts, Professional Managers, Doctors, HR Consultants etc. In certain cases the incubatees are being charged nominally. This will give the innovators immense motivation to go forward with their ideas.
